In Don Thornton's information about Apple Parers he said that George Bergner was from Washington, Illinois. He is actually from Washington, Missouri. He held a patent for the original parer/corer which we still have here at the Washington Historical Society along with one of the original parer/corer's. Bergner also improved gardening shears and built the fire engine that was used locally. His main job was that of gunsmith and we have two of his rifles on display as well.

Forgot to mention one other invention that your readers might enjoy. He made a velocipede. We have the original wheel here. It was powered by a bike being ridden on the inside of it. Machines of this sort were featured in a Smithsonian magazine not too long ago.
